I got an email today that would've offended me if it were from anyone other than my friend Pete. Seems I aggravated him with my anti-Ashcroft sentiment earlier today. He always calls me a femi-nazi. I really love that term. It's his loving way of saying I stand up for what I believe in. If I believe in it strongly enough I'll take on someone twice my size to defend it. I'm proud of who I am and the things I believe in so when I am referred to as a "tree hugging, no meat eatin', gun taking, psycho, oprah winfrey watching, soccer mom, know it all femi-nazi" I shall wear that label proudly. He did say he wasn't inferring that I fit into all of those of those categories so I think I'll ditch the no meat eatin', tree hugging and oprah watching. I love steaks and I don't have time for Oprah. I've climbed trees but never really hugged one. The rest of it... yup, that's me!! : )

I'm sending all my love and happy thoughts to Kaycee. She's not had a good week. I gave her a big {{hug}} today and told her some day we would be able to hug for real and laugh and maybe even sing. I hope she holds me to that.

I have a lot of words screaming inside my head over the Ashcroft nomination. Since my family reads this (and I don't want my mouth washed out with soap), I'll just head ya' on over to Brooke. She says it perfectly.

No posts since Monday?? I was busier than I thought apparently. I have been very busy this week and have given in to fierce headaches at the end of each day. Last night's headache still lingers with me today so I hope work goes smoothly.

A lot of my associates in the .com industry have been caught up in the layoff/cutback frenzy of late and that causes me to be a little nervous about the economy in general - now it's personal as a friend has been affected. My nervousness is replaced with sadness. If only I had a million dollars...

There was no school today because of an ice storm. Just when I thought I was gonna go nutz, the doorbell rang. It was the neighbor boy telling me he was supposed to come over here for awhile. Ugh. I don't want to become the mean mom of the block so I let him stay a couple of hours. When I sent them to his house to play, they returned saying they couldn't be over there because everyone was sleeping at his house. Needless to say, I have a rip-roaring headache from trying to work over the piercing shrieks of two boys playing Army for 5-1/2 hours.

I was so happy to see Todd come in from work. We flopped down on the bed and started a pretty intense conversation to clear the air between us. We never get to finish simple conversations, let alone serious ones. It seems like there's always some unfinished business so we set out to fix that. Christopher came to the top of the stairs to tell me he was hungry. I asked him for ten minutes so he went back down and we continued. To make a long story short, he called my aunt and told her we were ignoring him and letting him starve then packs the phone up and thrusts it in my face and says "Talk to her!". She was laughing because she knew he was exaggerating. The little poop ate constantly all day. Not only did I feed him, I also fed his friend yet he was doing his best to convince her that he'd been neglected all day.

Back when we were just friends, Todd and I would make a point to spend time just talking without interruption. We were both dealing with some pretty heavy issues back then and it was important that we take time to break away from the unpleasantries in life. Now that we're together and happy, we don't do that anymore but I'm thinking we should. Maybe a Friday night date once a month or something. Just us. No kids. Yeah, I think I like that idea : )

Oh good Lord! Todd's gone whacko on me!! He's downloading Pat Boone's rendition of Metallica, Van Halen, etc. This is just creepy.

Yesterday I had a song in my head and could not get rid of it. When that happens the only way to get it out is to sing it. Problem was I wasn't hearing actual words, just the melody. The human jukebox was online so I hummed a little bit of it for him. He guessed it right first time and in under thirty seconds. It was Dy'er Ma'ker by Led Zeppelin. Al is simply amazing!

My musical taste runs the gamut; if I can sing it, chances are I'll like it. Last night I tried to introduce Todd to the finer points of good music. I played everything from Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty to Led Zeppelin. He didn't like it. If the sound doesn't make a person want to rip someone's head off, he doesn't like it. I tease him about his only prerequisites being that it's obnoxiously loud and incorporates swear words. Luckily, he likes to hear me sing so he'll listen quietly. Emily likes to sing too so we downloaded some Creedence Clearwater Revival so she could sing Doo Doo Doo Looking Out My Back Door. She really gets into it. Too funny.

It's snowing again and is supposed to off and on until Thursday. This is the kind of winter I like. It's Iowa - this is what it's supposed to do in the winter time. The back yard has been of full of boys and sleds as it should be in January. Got that Lori?? It's January. You're an Iowan. Deal with it baby : )
