Wow. An eight hour defrag. No wonder this thing has been acting so screwy.

The system tray relay taken by Brooke and passed to me. Let's see... what I'm running:

IBM ThinkPad laptop
366mhz Intel Pentium processor
5 gig hard drive but networked to a Gateway 450 with over 20 gigs of storage.
96mb RAM
Windows 98 SE
DSL internet connection

In the tray:

Task scheduler, Norton anti-virus, power indicator, TrackPoint for the mouse, Winamp, sleep manager, sound card, AOL instant messenger.

Right now I have outlook express, cuteftp, photoshop, and three internet explorer browser windows open. Since it's the weekend and I'm home, there's not much going on. If I were at work, I'd have a linux session going, probably at least five browser windows open, notepad, Dreamweaver UltraDev, WS-FTP, and at least one, probably two, terminal server sessions to the servers in Boston. This poor old laptop couldn't do all that. Speaking of the poor old laptop, I think I'll take it offline and defrag the hard drive while I go read the book Brooke sent me. The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.

So who can I pass this relay onto?? Oh Nancy??? Yooohoooo???

Some friends came over tonight and brought their Rottweiller puppy for me to see. Todd has seen it a few times this past week and kept telling me how cute it was. He's right, it is a cutie. Not sure how Dozer felt about a new puppy being in the house. They did kiss/lick each other goodbye but there was a whole lot of bitin' going on between the hellos and goodbyes. Poor Dozer.. he's just so fat that once he gets flipped onto his back he's like a turtle. Can't get his feet back under him to save his life. Pictures of the dogs playing are here if anyone is interested.

I think I am losing my mind. Really. The boss informed me today that my time sheets weren't done. Okay, I knew that. For the last two months?? That I did not know. I had them all written out on paper and the paper was sitting by the computer I use for entering time. I remember working on them but I can't remember for sure if I finished or not. Apparently I didn't.

What's even more bizarre is that I went back over old email to see if I'd missed anything. Almost every email from more than a week ago is gone from my memory. Totally gone. Some of them freaked me clear out. I'd read and then think "Oh crap! Did I take care of that???" and panic. Doublecheck and discover that yes, I had taken care of it - just don't recall taking care of it.

This is frightening. Todd says it's just because I have too much going on at once. He's always telling me I don't listen or absorb what people say to me. He talks and I can hear him talking but can't process the words. I get so sucked into work that days turn into weeks and I don't even realize it. I need to get back into a solid routine. Work no later than 6pm, step away from the computer, enjoy some family time and unwind. Easier said than done.

While arguing with Todd about the proper way to hold a pool cue, I came across a site that's new to me and has some potential. So You Wanna? Looks similar to eHow but teaches how to do stuff. Wonder if it teaches how to get over a nasty cold....

I have to get this off my chest. With the exception of a few... and I mean VERY FEW... wait.... I gotta rephrase this. I was going to say the majority of linux people suck ass. But that's not me. I'm nice. Starting over...

Brian Bilbrey is nice. Brian has tried his best to help me. Dave Sill also tried to help me but he gave up too soon. Maybe he decided I was helpless. I have been trying quite unsuccessfully to get Qmail running on our linux server. It's frustrating as hell to try to find someone to help me up the steep learning curve. I was searching google groups today and found a message from a person like myself that said "before you get all holier than thou...". I about laughed myself to death.

It's true. If you administer windows servers, you can find a wealth of easy to understand information online. If you can't find what you're looking for, just ask another windows admin and they'll gladly walk you through your problem. Linux people are a different breed. (except Brian and a few others) They have no time for beginners. They don't send you back to the shallow end of the pool. They kick you clear out! Maybe it's just Linux mail server administrators. I don't know but it's going to drive me insane in a hurry if I don't get it figured out. (This is all too geeky for my readers, isn't it?)

Typical JustLisa drivel for those of you still reading... I got a package in the mail today from Brooke. She thinks I spend too much time at the computer so sent me some books to read. I had honestly planned to read some tonight but got sucked into this Linux pit again. Also, Dozer is getting so fat that his midsection is as big around as mine. God help him if he doesn't grow some legs soon.
