Todd wanted Ben to take a nap so he wouldn't get crabby later tonight. Emily wanted Ben to take a nap so she could go to my mom's with me. The best laid plans.... Todd is zonked out in the recliner. Emily is snoring on the couch. Ben is wide awake watching Courage the Cowardly Dog. Me? I'm just quietly amused by the whole thing. hehe

Last summer we came to a fork in the road and could have taken different paths. We decided rather than go it alone, we'd strike out together. It's been a crazy trip thus far and about to take another monumental leap forward. We're moving!

My nerves are shot! It doesn't take much to get me wound up and worrying - something as major as home ownership has really got me going. I hope we are doing the right thing.

I worry that other people will think we're moving too fast. Todd reminds me it's no one's business but our own. I worry that the plumbing will leak when the water is turned back on. He reminds me that leaks are pretty easy to fix. My biggest concern is that something will happen and I won't be able to work thereby plunging us into financial hell. He reminds me that whatever happens, we'll be in it together and it will be okay.

Every time I get anxious, he's there to calm me. I drive myself nuts sometimes with the "what ifs" that play loudly and continuously in my head. I can't imagine what it's like for him to have to deal with me sometimes. He's been my rational voice for years now and hasn't knocked me in the head yet. I think that's a pretty good indication that we'll be just fine.

I don't normally post while I'm working but I'm burning some files to CD on the work computer and have a few minutes to kill. Geesh... I can't believe three days have gone by since my last post. That's the sign of a busy week!

I chatted with my sister briefly last night and somehow the conversation turned to our dad. For some reason I can talk to my brothers about him without incident but when she and I discuss him, it ends in tears for one or both of us. She moved to Arizona quite some time ago and wasn't able to be around much his last few years. She carries a lot of pain with her because of that and I wish I could do something to take that away. When dad was alive my sister and I didn't get along at all. Somehow his illness and death brought us closer together. We've always been "his girls" and with him being gone that takes on a much deeper meaning - for me anyway.

Enough about that.. it's back to work for me. Oh.. one more thing... does this scare anyone besides me?? Maybe I'm just being an anti-republican femi-nazi again ....

A week ago Saturday we had rain/thunderstorms on top of the several inches of ice still hanging around. The rain had nowhere to go because of the ice cap so it seeped into basements everywhere. I went to my office last Saturday night and stepped in water. I guess in the case of no basement, the water just seeps between the walls and floors. I spent an hour or two moving stuff up out of the water and dragging furniture to higher ground. I checked last night and it was all dried out again so I decided to start putting it back together. I've basically worked from home since mid December when we had our first blizzard. Today I decided that winter is now over and there will not be occasion for me to be snowed in until next winter rolls around. As a show of good faith in my decision, I migrated all of my books, files, disks and everything else back to the office. After I finished the migration it dawned on me that girl's state basketball hasn't arrived yet. We always have one more blizzard during the state tournament each year.

The news this morning said that the Boston state government had told all nonessential state workers to stay home because of their blizzard and they were urging the private sector to do the same. All the major news sources asked that residents please stay off the roads. I called the Boston office and sure enough, everyone was at their desk and accounted for. Team DaVinci does not shut down for Mother Nature. I suppose that has to do with my boss being an Iowa boy. As native Iowans, we are conditioned to ignore blizzard warnings and continue with our daily duties. We have dealt with scenes such as this all winter long... and Bostonians are freaking over a little blizzard. peh.
